The love letters that James Love wrote to his fiancé, Eliza Mary “Molly” Wilson, provide an insightful picture of 19th-century American life in the St. Louis area and beyond. In addition to detailing the love story of James and Molly, the letters discuss the war, including activities in Missouri, battles, Love’s life as a soldier, and his time in Confederate prisons.

Their iconic personalities come to life this Valentine’s Day as Frances Levine, President of the Missouri History Museum, and Christopher Gordon, Director, Library & Collections at Missouri History Museum, read a selection of letters, revealing intimate details of a love that withstood historical upheavals, long periods apart and misfortune.
